This series of classroom-tested and easily-implemented lessons will help you to teach STEM concepts. The Space Challenge encourages students to take responsibility for their own learning. They will work as young scientists and engineers, immersing themselves in motivating STEM activities that promote creative problem-solving, communication and teamwork skills.<\/p>\n
The Space Challenge Activity Pack is for educators who want to teach STEM through hands-on problem solving. Even if this is your first experience using LEGO\u00ae MINDSTORMS\u00ae or robotics in general, this learning program has been developed to support you and to make the materials suitable for your teaching environment.<\/p>\n
The Space Challenge Activity Pack consists of seven Challenge Missions, nine Learning Missions, one Basics of Gears project and three Research Projects, separated into student and teacher versions in a multimedia content environment.<\/p>\n
Each mission and project presents a fun STEM learning opportunity. The LEGO MINDSTORMS Content Editor features all the tools the students need for documenting and presenting their findings and results as they progress through the material.<\/p>\n
Three Research Projects \u2013 co-developed with actual space engineers \u2013 provide rich opportunities for students to explore and create innovative solutions to current space exploration topics. The Research Projects are based on three key problems that researchers from around the world are trying to solve: how to ensure human survival in space, how to create energy in space, and how robots can help human space exploration.<\/p>\n
The Space Challenge Activity Pack features the following main categories:<\/p>\n
\u2013 Basics of Gears
\nStudents learn the basics of gears in order to build effective robots by applying knowledge of physical science and mathematical principles<\/p>\n
\u2013 Learning Missions
\nStudents investigate, observe, calculate, and apply knowledge to solve specific tasks.<\/p>\n
\u2013 Space Challenge
\nStudents creatively adapt and apply programming and problem-solving skills to make robots that can solve challenges related to space exploration.<\/p>\n
\u2013 Research Projects
\nStudents participate in discussions and conduct projects designed to familiarise them with the planning and development of space exploration.<\/p>\n
